What is Orange Shirt Day?
Orange Shirt Day, September 30th, is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year.
Pick up a free Every Child Matters button from the Fox Creek Library to acknowledge, reflect and honour the thousands of Indigenous children buried on residential school grounds and to recognize the inter-generational harm that residential schools have caused to Indigenous families and communities.
Resources are available to borrow from the library.
